Webinar Series: Heavy-Duty Electrification In Washington

Winter Webinar Series_v3

The heavy-duty transportation sector may be the farthest away from fully electrifying, but several private and public fleets in Western Washington are taking big steps forward.

Our webinar on March 4 focused on the topic of advancing heavy-duty electrification.

During this webinar, we heard from two organizations that have adopted all-electric heavy-duty vehicles:

  • In 2019, Recology put the nation’s first electric Class 8 refuse truck into service. They now have plans to expand their electric fleet soon.
  • King County Metro currently has eleven battery electric buses with plans to order 120 by the end of 2020.

Each organization discussed their experiences thus far with heavy-duty electric vehicles, including infrastructure requirements, utility coordination, vehicle acquisition, and both expected and unanticipated lessons learned.
