Founded in 1979, DKS Associates is an employee-owned transportation planning and engineering firm. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, DKS has 160 employee-owners across eight offices in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Texas

DKS has become a nationally recognized leader in advancing the electrification of transportation, specializing in planning, design, and implementation of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure projects.

We plan regional and municipal-scale EV charging programs, which includes designing site-specific charging infrastructure, assisting clients with project phasing, financing, and implementation. Specifically, DKS’s electromobility services include infrastructure master planning for fleet, public, workplace, and residential charging, with an emphasis on site prioritization, equipment siting, and installation design.

Since 2018, DKS has planned the electrification of over 70 vehicle fleets comprised of thousands of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles domiciled across hundreds of facilities primarily for municipalities, counties, regional transportation agencies, transit operators, utilities, ports, and universities. From our countless site visits with fleet and facilities managers along the west coast, we have developed a keen understanding of fleet operations that inform each EV transition plan and engineering design we prepare. Over this time, we have also become experts in charging hardware and software, and the rapidly changing industry landscape of vendors and charging networks, allowing us to help our clients select the optimal product for their specific needs while minimizing capital and operating costs.

DKS IS YOUR TRUSTED ELECTROMOBILITY ADVISOR

  • Our electromobility team includes experts in EV charging technology, specialty electric vehicles, electrical engineering, charger planning, data modeling, project funding, and operational analysis.

  • We are experts in EV charging equipment and have relationships with numerous charging networks, hardware providers, and load management software providers.

  • Our electromobility subject matter expertise includes the latest technological developments, including innovative low-cost modular charging architecture, dynamic load management, dynamic charger sharing, bi-directional (vehicle-to-grid or V2G) charging, charging for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, inductive charging, mobile charging, automated charging, and more.

  • We excel in the most challenging types of electromobility projects such as planning charging for large fleets at sites with insufficient electrical power and for fleets of specialty and mission-critical vehicles such as police pursuit vehicles, street sweepers, fire engines, solid waste transport, long-haul freight trucks, container handling equipment, and more that have rigorous duty cycles and therefore require innovative charging approaches with resiliency built in.

  • We provide both planning and installation design for chargers with experience in public rights-of-way, surface parking lots, parking garages for worksites, fleet depots, multimodal transportation hubs, transit passenger facilities, and more.

  • We have demonstrated success by helping our clients obtain millions of dollars in third-party funding. We also assist with evaluating and advising on potential revenue streams from carbon offset market mechanisms (e.g., Washington’s Clean Fuel Standard and California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard) and V2G electricity export revenue.
